The Keith Callaghan case was ruled today. In this case, Keith, through his mother Caroline Callaghan, alleged a failure to diagnose autism and/or appropriate education.

It is a novel case as Keith was in a special needs school for a number of years and assessed by a number of educational psychologists, yet still remained undiagnosed.

It was alleged that Keith should have had an individual learning plan which, if implemented in time, would have made him a lot more functional. The settlement reflects the causation difficulties in the case.

The settlement will go a long way to helping Keith with his special needs.

Speaking after the settlement, his Solicitor applauded Keith’s mother Caroline’s resilience in fighting so many Defendants to do right by her son, whose autism went untreated for so long. Education is supposed to help someone develop into something better than they would be without it.

Hopefully lessons can now be learned from this case and a student is not just a bystander but integral to the entire process.
