Our Scarlett O’Sullivan, Medical Negligence solicitor, and Roger Murray SC represented the family of a Ferbane man who died from a catastrophic bleed while working in Limerick.

“We really hope that another family never has to go through what we have over the past two years and eight months”, Scarlett commented.

“Jimmy was a much-loved husband to Alice, father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren who have been left bereft by his tragic passing. He worked hard and cared deeply for those close to him and was a pillar of the local community. Jimmy was on haemodialysis for several years due to a chronic kidney condition. Unfortunately his AV fistula started to cause problems from May 2022 onwards following an infection for which he received in hospital treatment. Thereafter he suffered 2 spontaneous bleeds from the fistula which his son James heroically managed to stop with the aid of a tourniquet. There were a number of missed opportunities for Jimmy’s fistula to be repaired at Galway University Hospital however on each occasion he was discharged home. Jimmy was therefore awaiting urgent surgical repair when he suffered a fatal and foreseeable catastrophic bleed while in Limerick in February 2023. It is beyond doubt that had Jimmy’s fistula been repaired and ligated this tragedy could have been avoided and he would still be here. May he rest in peace.”
